| Explanation | From masks to Wayang (a traditional form of Indonesian shadow puppetry), Chinese-style acupressure point diagrams and Arabic text—this vivid painting on glass strongly inherits the Cirebon culture, a blend of Sundanese, Javanese, Islamic, and Chinese influences. The work also reflects the way the artist had attempted to explore the uniqueness of Indonesia and his own art by focusing on the culture of his home country, between the 1970s and early 1980s, at a time when Indonesia’s individuality was sought. |
