ExplanationFollowing his father's footsteps, Suparto started as a painter and then shifted to making wood sculptures in the 1960s. In his sculptures, he often used animals such as watchdog seen in this work, cow and bird as motif. His sculpture is deeply influenced by primitive sculptures from Kalimantan Island, New Guinea and Nias Island (a small island in the Western coast of Sumatra Island).
