Explanation | Lee Uhwan, a Korean painter and sculptor, was born in Gyeongsangnam-do, Korea, in 1936. Lee emigrated to Japan after leaving Seoul National University College of Fine Arts. He became active as one of the leading artists of the Mono-ha(School of Things) from the late 1960s and created works that examine the relationships among materials, using natural materials, such as wood and stone. In the 1970s, he started a two-dimensional work series that arranges dots and lines on a canvas in a simple manner. In this work, the simplicity of the arrangement of blue blush lines, using Eastern brush techniques, creates a rich space evoking the flow of water or waterfalls. |
