Explanation | Park Seobo was born in North Gyeongsang Province, Korea in 1931. The flowing curved line covering the whole canvas is not drawn to express something. Park Seobo, a leading Korean Dansaekhwa painter, after the war changed his style from dark-toned informalism to the brightly colored ‘hard edge’ style and started his ‘Ecriture’ series, which resembles the texture of Joseon white porcelain. In this series, the artist attempts to create a repetition of simple acts that depart from artistic intention, and to leave the inevitable traces of these acts as lines. Through this painting style, the motion of hands create a large space while the materiality of the canvas is extenuated as the medium of expression. |
