| 作品解説(日本語) | 本作は、1930年の新宿三越の開店を宣伝するポスターです。地上8階の鉄筋コンクリート造のビルを俯瞰する構図で描くことで、新宿大通りを明るく照らす新宿店の大きさを強調しています。当時、小型映画に熱中していた非水は、通りを隔てた向かいの建物から、完成して間もない新宿三越の様子をフィルムに収めていました。フィルムを見てみると、本作と新宿三越の周囲の建物の形状は全く同じで、実際の風景を忠実に描いてポスターを制作したことが分かりました。 |
| Writing text | This is a poster advertising the opening of Mitsukoshi department store’s Shinjuku branch in 1930. As if overlooking the eight-story reinforced concrete building, it highlights the great size of the Shinjuku branch, which lit up the main street of Shinjuku. Sugiura, who was passionate about amateur motion picture photography at the time, made a film from the building on the opposite side of the road that captured the Shinjuku Mitsukoshi building shortly after its completion. The film shows that the shapes of the buildings around Shinjuku Mitsukoshi were exactly as depicted in this poster, which demonstrates the earnest attention to detail that Sugiura put into creating the design and portraying the reality of the scene. |
