| 作品解説(日本語) | 小磯は、東京美術学校（現・東京藝術大学）西洋画科を首席で卒業した翌年に渡仏、約２年間ヨーロッパ各地の美術館等で熱心に作品を鑑賞します。古典的な技法を重んじて、人物像を主要な画題としました。本作では、顔まわりは細やかに筆を重ねる一方で、背景や衣服に重ねられた手の筆致は素早く大胆です。この年、同じ衣装を身に着けた女性を主題に、角度や背景、姿勢を変えて、複数枚制作しており、構図への強い探求心がうかがえます。 |
| Writing text | After graduating first in his class at the Western painting department of the Tokyo Fine Arts School (the current Tokyo University of the Arts), Koiso Ryohei spent around two years touring art museums across Europe, eagerly taking in the exhibited works. Koiso attached great importance to classical techniques and made human subjects the main theme of his works. Here we see many detailed brushstrokes around the face, while in the background and on the clothing the strokes are quick and bold. Around this time, he created several such paintings of a woman wearing the same clothing but with changes to the point of view, background, and pose, which demonstrates his keen desire to explore the possibilities of composition. |
