作品解説(日本語)1907年から7年間ヨーロッパに学び帰国した安井が、日本の風物を対象葛藤する中で作品です。木漏れ日の射す木陰で裸の女性が読書し、横になるといった非現実的な様子を、丁寧な陰影をつけて表現し、現実かの様に描いています。手前にこぼれる林檎と布は作家が渡仏中に影響をうけた、ポール・セザンヌの静物画を彷彿させます。安井はこの後、1930年代から形態の簡略化や固有色にとわれない安井様式を確立しました。
Writing textThis piece is from a period in which Yasui Sotaro was feeling out of sorts with things Japanese, having just returned from the seven years he spent in Europe from 1907 onward. It depicts an unlikely tableau of nude women lying and reading under the trees as light filters through the leaves. He has used careful shading to make it look like a real scene. The cloth and apples scattered at the front of the picture are highly reminiscent of the still-life pieces of Paul Cézanne, whose works had made an impression on Yasui while he was in France. In the 1930s, he subsequently established his own style, involving the simplification of forms and liberation from the realistic coloring of objects.
