| 作品解説(日本語) | 目頭の下がった眼が印象的なロバが柵の向こうに2匹描かれています。北川は20歳で渡米し舞台や農場で働きながら絵を描き、27歳でメキシコに渡ります。子どもたちの美術教育に関心を抱いていた北川が、野外美術学校に務めながら自身二度目の個展も開催した年、この作品が制作されました。ロバは、メキシコの生活に欠かせない生き物です。丹念に筆を重ねてロバの毛並みやその眼が見つめる先のアマリリスの花を表現する一方で、柵や背景は平坦に簡略化して表現されています。作家の眼がとらえたものに、みる側も自然と誘われる様です。 |
| Writing text | On the other side of the fence we see two donkeys with expressive eyes that have slanted inner corners. Kitagawa Tamiji traveled to America when he was 20 and painted while working at theaters and farms. At the age of 27, he moved on to Mexico. He was passionate about art education for children and worked at a field art school. During the same year, he also hosted his second exhibition and created this piece. Donkeys played an essential role in daily life in Mexico. While the donkeys’ coats and the amaryllis they are gazing at were created with delicate brushstrokes, the fence and background are simplified and two-dimensional. The viewer is automatically prompted to look at what caught the artist’s eye. |
