| 公開解説 | 【極東書店カタログKF-1999a記載内容／リストNo.1 クーベルタン自筆手紙 1 枚 1897 年 3 月 3 日在パリ アメリカ大使宛 [1897 年] [パリ] Handwritten Two-Page Letter by Pierre de Coubertin on March 3, 1897 to the American Ambassador in Paris. <R20-307>／4pp., 11.3x17.8cm (4.5”x7”), with embossed letterhead of the “Union Fransçaise Des Universités Amériques”. Coubertin enclosed an invitation (not included here) to a Franco-Américan Manifestation which Coubertin is preparing for the meeting, and he is hoping that the ambassador will agree with it. Signed with his full name “Pierre de Coubertin”. The American Ambassador at the time was James B. Eustis. On March 19, 1897 a new ambassador was appointed, Horace Porter. Possibly J.B. Eustis received Coubertin’s invitation at the time he heard about his replacement. See the letter in the following lot. Lt. browning, abt.
