| Description of works | 【Nomads’ dish with free-spirited floral design】 The potters of Liao sancai, a three-color ware made during the Liao dynasty, mimicked tosansai (three-color glazed ware of the Tang dynasty) in their pottery-making, but their works also featured original shapes, colors, and decorations, reflective of the customs and tastes of the nomadic Khitan people. The sancai colors of green, yellow, and brown are achieved by glazes that contain lead. This dish is shaped like a flower that resembles the kaido (Chinese flowering apple) and peonies are created in the center using a pottery stamping technique, making the whole design resemble a framed painting. |
