| Description of works | 【The emblem on the crown is the sign of a military officer】 This figure is wearing a crown decorated with an emblem of a copper pheasant. Considering the stern facial expression and the chest protector, he is presumed to be a military officer. Long ago, the copper pheasant was a symbol of bravery because it was considered to be a bird that fights to the end, and its feathers were sometimes attached to crowns. The figure of a military officer was often paired with the figure of another civil service official, the two being placed as guardians on either side of the entrance to aristocrats’ tombs. |
