In the 12th century CE, the Bizen Kilns inherited the production techniques of sue ware in Setouchi to launch a ceramic 【production site in Bizen City, Okayama Prefecture. 】 Bizen ware were initially made in gray shades, as were sue ware, but in the latter half of the 13th century, the potters shifted the firing technique to one that achieved brown shades, as in this example.
