A large inscription on the backs of these two indicates that they were created by KATO Shuntan, a ceramist in Seto.
They feature classical, balanced body forms and handsome facial features. Eyes, noses, ears, canine teeth, and other parts of the faces are depicted in great detail, which was a signature feature of this artist. A glossy iron glaze is applied to their bodies.
