Description of works【Barking with widely-opened mouth】
This friendly looking mythical creature has an expressive face, with its widely-opened mouth. It has a thick chest but a slender body, which is the form also taken by wooden shishi (guardian lions) and komainu (lions-dogs) of the same period. The whole body is covered with iron glaze, which contributes to the lustrous appearance of its fur.
