Description of works【What is the difference between cloisonné enameling and ceramics?】
Jitai shippo (cloisonné porcelain) is a porcelain applied with decorative cloisonné enamel, and was made in Japan for export only for a short period of time in the first half of the Meiji era. Flowers and butterflies in solid vivid colored glazes, such as bright yellow and pink, are the renditions unique to cloisonné that are not achievable with ceramics alone. The textures are different too. In Aichi Prefecture, the base porcelain for jitai shippo was made in Seto and sent to Nagoya City or Ama City for the finishing process.
