Description of works【A figurine exerting the air of a cat more than a tiger】
KAWAMOTO Hansuke VI, a Seto ceramist, honed the skills he inherited from Hansuke IV and V, and produced figurines and containers using sukashi (open work) and yokoku (carved relief) techniques, which earned high reviews at Japanese and international expositions. This tiger is lifting its upper body and checking out the surroundings with its slightly lowered head. The hair on its body is realistically rendered. However, the body frame, face, and the tail look more like those of a cat, suggesting that it was a challenging undertaking for the artist.
