Description of worksLuster coloring is an overglazing technique used to achieve metallic patterns on pottery used in Iran, Syria, and Egypt in the ninth century CE and onwards. The glowing paints used for lusterware are considered to be substances that form a thin film on the surface, but their details are not known. This vividly-colored tile has characters formed by attaching ropes of clay to the base, which is flamboyantly embellished with arabesque patterns with flowers, birds, and other animals.
