Description of works【Jar with a long pelican’s beak】
This type of jug is called “beak-shaped” because of the long, narrow spout that resembles the beak of a pelican or flamingo. These jugs are considered to have been made not as household goods but for pouring liquids in religious rituals. Painted pottery produced in the Luristan region in western Iran, like this piece, bears patterns of kites, lattice, and other geometric shapes.
