Description of works【Sacred birds that escort human souls to the celestial realm】
In northwestern Iran, in the 11th to 13th centuries, a unique pottery called Garrus ware was produced. It was made of red clay coated with white slip, with patterns of birds and animals being created by scraping off select portions of the slip. Next, green or brown glaze was applied and the works were fired. Garrus ware is considered an invention of Zoroastrians who practice sky burial (placing the body on a tower so birds and the elements can hasten its decomposition).
