Description of works【Vietnamese jar modeled after Chinese porcelain】
This jar is modeled after bronzeware of the Han dynasty of China. A coat of ash glaze yields a pale yellow color after the piece is fired. A pattern of totestu (Chinese: taotie [mythical beasts]) is on the front and back of the body. Because the northern part of Vietnam was occupied by China for about 1,000 years, beginning with the time of the Han dynasty, a strong Chinese influence is evident in Vietnamese ceramics made during this period.
