Description of works【Khmer elephants were aristocrats’ vehicles】
This Khmer jar is in the form of an elephant, with its nose and tail gently flowing down the spherical body. The elephant wears a head decoration and has a saddle for human riders mounted around the mouth of the jar. These jars are often found with slaked lime inside, suggesting that they were used for betel chewing, a popular custom widely practiced in Southeast Asia.
