| Description of works | 【Sheep used as a symbol of beauty and auspiciousness】 In northern China, sheep were as valuable as pigs, cows, and horses. Funerary objects with an architectural theme, such as this piece, contain a variety of livestock, giving us a glimpse of what life was like in China at that time. A shepherd in this piece is watching sheep mate in a partitioned area with stairs. These scenes were reproduced as symbols of bountiful harvest and prosperity. |
