Description of works【Palm-sized teapot of Chinese taste】
This is a teapot made by the Yixing Kilns known for their high-quality clay and specialized pottery techniques. At these kilns, the potters first shape a clay slab into a cylinder, and then, on a rotating table, pound the cylinder with a wooden mallet to shape it into a round teapot, a technique called dashinto (Chinese: da sheng tong) or the panpan (the pounding sound) technique. A trace of the initial cylinder shape can be found inside the teapot. Many of these kilns’ small teapots only had a single spout hole through the body, not a multi-hole filter, due to the fact that Chinese loose tea was much larger than Japanese tea leaves and so did not escape out of the spout.
