Description of works【Percussion instruments that make no music】
Sho refers to bronze percussion instruments which produce sound when held by their handles and hit by a wooden mallet. They date back to the latter half of the Shang dynasty, and came in sets of different sizes to make a wide range of music for festivals, rain-making rituals, and other events. This piece emulates those metal instruments, and is believed to be a funerary object used in the tombs of aristocrats.
