Description of works【Chrysanthemums in your palm imparting a noble fragrance】
A kogo is a small, covered incense box used during the sumitemae (placing charcoal in the brazier during the tea ceremony) or as a decoration for a tokonoma (alcove in a traditional Japanese room). In the central part, an incised chrysanthemum design is colored in purple and yellow. Glazed with ryokuyu (green glaze), it is a simple round container with a very thin body. Ceramics of this style made in China are also called kochi, because they were brought to Japan in Chinese trade ships called the “kochi-sen” (Cochin boat) via the southern part of present-day Vietnam, which was formerly known as Cochin China.
