Description of works【Exquisite and stylish black suichu (pitcher)】
Suichu are pitchers for pouring water into teacups or kettles. A variety of materials are used to create these pitchers in different forms and colors. For sencha-seki (a tea ceremony that uses loose leaf green tea), a suichu is often placed on a shelf to catch the guests’ attention. This is a plain, black-glazed example with a beautiful long s-curved spout stretching out from the lower part of the body. Its curved handle, the rounded base of the handle, the delicate form of the knob ― all contribute to making this a superbly shaped piece.
