Description of works【Underglaze cobalt blue porcelain of flowers blooming all over the world】
In the center, a hanakagomon (flower basket pattern) is found, holding peonies and chrysanthemums representing the spring and fall seasons. Because this type of dish, divided into eight flower petal sections, resembles the shape of the cotton rose (fuyo), they are called fuyode in Japan. In Europe, because they were transported in Kraak sailing ships, they were called “Kraak porcelains.” These underglaze cobalt blue porcelains enjoyed worldwide popularity.
