| Description of works | 【Wine container with golden glow made to resemble bronzeware】 Glazed ceramics fired at high temperatures, called “proto-celadon,” emerged in the time of China’s ancient Shang dynasty. Occasionally, they were used as substitutes for the bronzeware made for deity and ancestor worship rituals. The Chinese character for the vessel (“zun”) is a generic term for wine containers or similar utensils, and symbolizes hands holding high a vessel of aromatic wine as an offering to a deity. |
