Description of works【Flower-shaped bowl with incised flower design】
Here, a technique called kakka (incised decoration) has been used to depict a peony. Seen from the top, this bowl is in the shape of a peony, and seen from the side, the profile of a peony is revealed. Both the rinka (flower-shaped rim) form and the peony motif were imported from China, and this popular style had a significant influence on how ceramics were decorated in Japan’s Heian period (794-1185 CE) .
