Description of works【Can you find two prawns?】
This thick dish with rinka (flower-shaped rim) bears a design of what appear to be catfish, freshwater prawns, and water weeds made by the inka (pottery stamping) technique and incised lines. On a background of ryokuyu (green glaze), yellow and purple glazes are applied. The rim is decorated with carved shippomon (pattern of overlapping circles) in between ummon (cloud pattern). Because these ceramics were made in Guandong, Guanxi, Hainan Island, and other parts of the Huanan (southern China) region, they were called “Huanan sansai” (Huanan three-color glazed ware [sancai in Chinese]).
