Description of works【Could this be a bowl for the afterlife?】
Stamped with nanakomon (small, fish-roe-like patterns), this bowl of tosansai (three-color glazed ware of the Tang dynasty often used as funerary objects) is decorated with brown, green, and white glazes. A bowl almost identical to this was brought to Japan at about the same time that these works were being produced in China, and was used as a lid for a jar, as revealed by an archaeological dig at Naohai-ji Temple in Mie Prefecture.
