Description of works【Japan-made dinnerware set designed for common people】
“Wakasugi” (young cypress) was a popular series of tableware launched in 1958. To sell this series, the company started the buying club “Noritake Home Set Hampukai.” Every month, its members were allowed to purchase one type of tableware in a set with as many pieces as they needed. This sales channel was launched because Noritake’s intention was not to introduce Western-style dinner sets without modification, but to offer tableware more adaptive to the changing lifestyles in Japan resulting from post-war economic growth, semi-westernized living at public apartments, and increased consumption of western-style food. The Noritake dinnerware sets therefore consisted of tableware suited to modern lifestyles and younger people’s food preferences.
