Description of worksThe creator of this ceramic object is KATO Kiyoyuki, a representative ceramist of Seto ware.
Standing 190 cm-tall, KATO made this massive object by stacking coils of clay. For ornamentation, he used a wooden rod and plaster stamps in a manner similar to incising to achieve a stratified, intense look enhanced by the texture of the clay.
It is a huge, powerful piece, but actually hollow inside, and even has a mouth at the top, making it usable as a large vase.
