| Description of works | 【A texture similar to precious stone】 This jar is characterized by small knobs with a vertical opening on two sides just below the rim, called “bi” (nose), and a bulging body. It is a thin-walled, gray-black piece with a polished finish, and is called kokuhito (black surface pottery). This piece conjures up the image of the gyokki (precious stone vessels) representative of Liangzhu pottery. From ruins associated with the Liangzhu culture, stone-walled villages, altars, and clusters of tombs containing many of these gyokki have been unearthed. |
