| Description of works | 【A set of stylish flower-shaped dishes made of red and white clays】 For the base of these dishes, red and white clays are combined. The white side is coated with ryokuyu (green glaze), and the red side is decorated with testu-e (underglaze iron) and white slip, achieving two separate designs on one plate, both covered by a transparent glaze. This two-designs-in-one style is called katamigawari (alternating designs on each half), which was particularly popular in the first half of the 17th century and widely used, for example, in kosode (short-sleeved kimonos). |
