Description of works【Playful combination of differently-shaped dishes 】
FURUTA Oribe (1544–1615 CE) was a tea master active in the latter half of the Momoyama period who developed an aesthetic completely different from his teacher, SEN no Rikyu. Oribe ware was made to his taste and named after him. These mukozuke (small dishes) were combined as a set by the owner to use in a playful serving style called yosemuko, in which a dish suited to each guest is selected. These dishes were made by molding tatara (clay slabs of uniform thickness). The weave of the fabric placed between each slab and its mold are visible on the interior.
