| Description of works | 【E-Garatsu ware fascinates with free and natural brush strokes】 These lovely examples of Karatsu ware were first made on a potter’s wheel, and then the rims were widened and shaped into rinka (flower-shaped rims) with four petals. Karatsu ware mukozuke (small dishes) in the Azuchi-Momoyama period are very attractive, using creative shapes decorated with free and natural brush painting. Karatsu ware comes in a variety of styles, and works with tetsu-e (painting using iron oxide-based pigment), like these dishes, are called e-garatsu. |
