| 作品解説 | 【作者コメント】芥川龍之介が書いた小説に触発された作品です。 しかし私は、原作が持つ教訓的匂いを排除して、生命が誕生する神秘の瞬間を表現しました。作品のドームは、母親の胎内を象徴しています。生命が生まれることの不思議さを再認識する機会になることを願っています。 作品は野外彫刻でありながらドームで覆い、その内部を覗くと蜘蛛を通して空が見えるという、二重のパラドックスを用いています。 ---- 野外彫刻でありながら、ドームを掛けて疑似的に屋内をつくった作品。芥川龍之介の小説「蜘蛛の糸」をモチーフとして使用し、蜘蛛とその糸に群がる人物（子供）を配置して物語を構成する。蜘蛛の巣が張ってある穴から陽光が差し込み、天国と地獄の物語を劇的に演出する。物語を構成する68体は、木彫の原形をブロンズで鋳造したもの。鋳造という複製技法を用いて同一像を反復することで、糸に群がる人物の匿名性と多数性を暗示。それが一方で、主人公など動きの違う像を浮かび上がらせる効果を生み出す。この作品で特徴的なのは、空間を仕切るドーム。彫刻の場合、表面＝外形そのものが作品として成立するのが一般的だが、ここでは内と外が反転した構造が採用される。そして外から内をのぞくとそこからまた外が見えるという、内／外のイメージを重層的に反転させた空間を作り出している。この両義的な内／外によって、作者は生命が誕生する神秘の瞬間を表現する。「ドームは母親の胎内を象徴しています。生命が生まれる不思議さを再認識する機会になることを願っています」と言う。 While being an open-air sculpture, the work incorporates a dome to make it a pseudo-indoor artwork. Based on A Spider Thread, a novel by Ryunosuke Akutagawa, the piece depicts a story featuring a spider thread and people (children) flocking around it. Sunlight shines through the hole where a spider has built a web, adding a dramatic effect to the story of the Heaven and the Hell. The 68 dolls featured in the story are cast in bronze modeled from woodcarvings. By repeating identical images using a duplication technique called casting, the work implies the anonymity and multipleness of the mob flocking to the thread, while at the same time effectively highlighting protagonists making different moves in the crowd. What makes the work outstand is the dome that divides the space. In sculpture, the external surface = appearance defines the work, but this piece adopts a structure in which the inside and outside are reversed. As one peeks into the dome from outside, the outside comes into view once again across the internal space, creating a space where the imageries of inside and outside are reversed in multiple layers. By presenting the ambiguity of the inside and outside, the sculptor delineates the mysterious moment where a life comes into being. He says, “The dome symbolizes mother’s womb. I hope my work presents viewers an opportunity to rediscover the mystery of the birth of life.” |
