| 作品解説 | これは生徒たちが共同制作した白塗りの鉄の作品である。高さ5m近い大きなもので、下方は鉄板が2枚交差して十字形の台座となって安定し、上方は天へ向かって手を広げた人体に似たモニュメントとなっている。板状の鉄板の組み合わせだから平板に見えるが、なかなか工夫されている。現代日本彫刻展がはじまった初期から、市民や生徒のこのような参加もあって宇部市は“彫刻の街”のコンセンサスが一歩一歩築かれていった。制作費も仏教集団「心のつどい実行委員会」が出した。 The iron sculpture painted in white is a joint work by students. The large monument, reaching nearly 5m in height, has two crisscrossed iron plates forming a stable pedestal in a cross shape, while the upper part looks like a person spreading hands towards the sky. The combination of iron plates gives a tabular look to the artwork, but a creative ingenuity is also visible in the design. Since the early days of the Contemporary Japanese Sculpture Exhibition, the City of Ube has been building a community consensus as a “city of sculptures” step by step through the involvement of citizens and students, as seen in this example. The production was sponsored by Kokoro No Tsudoi (Spiritual Gathering) Executive Committee, a Buddhist group. |
