Cultural property nameThe Grave of Kuroda Nagamasa
CommentaryKuroda Nagamasa (the first feudal lord [daimyo] of the Fukuoka Domain [520,000 koku of land]), whose service helped Toyotomi Hideyoshi and Tokugawa Ieyasu achieve the unification of Japan, was a devoted follower of Ryugaku Osho of Daitokuji Temple in Murasakino, Kyoto. When Nagamasa died in 1623, his heir Tadayuki built Shounji Temple making Ryugaku its founder.
Designed so that it will be seen as a model for a grave of a feudal lord, the grave of Nagamasa is large and noble. It is located on the right-hand side at the far end of the cemetery.
