CommentThe outer surface of a free-blown hemispherical bowl in thick was curved to make fourteen circular projections. A fragment of this kind of glass bowl was found at the rock behind ritual site of Okinoshima, Fukuoka which is called Shosoin in the sea. The color of the glass of the example from Okinoshima is pale green, though slightly reddish for this bowl on exhibit. This pale brown color was caused by manganese oxide which was added to the glass material so that it would not turn green by the action of the ferrous ion.
