CommentThe surface of this glass bowl is decorated by circular cuts in succession so that it looks like a carapace. This glass bowl is the same type as that of the treasure of Hakururi-no-wan of Shoso-in, and the finding is said to be from the mausoleum of Emperor Ankan. It is valuable as evidence indicating the interchange of material culture between the Orient and the East Asia. The section of the bowl is amber colored. Manganese oxide was added to the glass material so that it would not turn green by the action of the ferrous ion. The color of the bowl of Hakururi-no-wan of Shoso-in is the same as this piece.
