CommentA bust and the name of the king are drawn on the face, and the minted place, minted year, and fire altar are described on the back side. Each successive king puts on a special crown; therefore, I can identify the king drawn on the coin by the shape of the crown and the king’s name. The coin was made by chopping in Western Asia. The craftsman picked up a silver disk with the die, on which a pattern of the front and back were drawn, and struck it with a hammer to impress the pattern of the die. The sizes of some are different, but their weight is the same—a unit of one drakhma.
