DescriptionBoat-shaped mukozuke bowl is unique to Oribe ware. Both edges of each piece are thickly covered with green glaze while the center is decorated with drawings of hanging persimmons and geometric designs. Wave patterns are depicted on the outer walls, representing a scene of a boat running, slicing through the waves. The flat base has three looped feet. This charming set of dishes, with the striking contrast of the vivid green glaze and the dynamic drawing as well as the uniqueness in form, fully represents the lure of Oribe, one of the popular wares for kaiseki meals served during tea gatherings. It is thought to have been produced at the Motoyashiki kiln of Toki City, Gifu Prefecture.
