| +History | Since ancient times, this shrine has venerated Mt. Miwa as a place where the deity to which it is dedicated, Ōmononushi no ōkami, abides. According to the Kojiki and Nihonshoki, this deity corresponds to the sakimitama and kushimitama (two aspects of the soul) of the deity Ōkuninushi-no-kami from the mythology of Izumo Province. Ōmononushi-no-ōkami is said to have appeared shining bright across a sea and requested to be worshipped at Mt. Miwa to help Ōkuninushi-no-kami complete his task of creating the nation. |
