Title | Ishikoridome |
テキスト内容 | Offspring of Amanonukato no mikoto, and claimed as ancestral deity of the Kagami-zukuri, or "mirror-maker" clan. At the time of Amaterasus hiding away in the rock cave of heaven, the deity Omoikane no mikoto had bellows made from a deers hide, and ordered Ishikoridome to forge a mirror from metal of the mountain Amanokaguyama. Kogo shūi states that the first mirror forged at this time was unsatisfactory, and was enshrined at the Hinokuma Jingū in Kii Province. The second mirror forged was perfect and subsequently enshrined at the Grand Shrines of Ise (Ise Jingū). For that reason, Ishikoridome was enshrined as an auxiliary deity (see haishi) at Hinokuma Jingū. Also identified as one of the "chiefs of the five clans" who accompanied Ninigi at the time of the Descent of the Heavenly Grandchild (tenson kōrin), he was placed in charge of forging ritual mirrors. -Kadoya Atsushi |
