| | In warm-temperate regions, grasslands usually change into woodlands through a process of ecological succession. The established grasslands of the region are maintained under various systems of human management, and are called secondary grasslands. The grasslands have their own flora and fauna, these are usually species that prefer open sunny sites. Grasslands of the Hiraodai Plateau dominated by Japanese pampas (Susuki) and dwarf bamboo (Nezasa) are also secondary ones. In the grasslands, there are a considerable number of Eurasian Continent species that probably established themselves when the Japanese Archipelago formed a part of a large continent once connected with the Eurasian Continent. |
