| | 平安時代末期、平氏・源氏などの武士が力を持つようになります。平氏と源氏は保元・平治の乱など朝廷内の争いを通して政治に関わるようになり、源氏を破った平清盛（たいらのきよもり）は権力を独占しました。清盛は日宋（にっそう）貿易を進め、その拠点となる九州北部や瀬戸内海沿岸を広く勢力下におきました。栄華を極めた平氏でしたが周囲の不満が募り、源氏の棟梁（とうりょう）・源頼朝（みなもとのよりとも）が平氏打倒の兵を挙げると徐々に圧迫され壇ノ浦（だんのうら）で滅びました。平氏が再起をかけて最後を過ごした北九州近郊には平氏に関わる様々な伝承地が残っています。 |

| | During the final years of the Heian period, samurai warriors such as those from the Taira also known as Heishi and Minamoto, known as Genji clans, had gained considerable power. Through struggles at the imperial court such as the wars in the Hogen and Heiji periods, the Taira and Minamoto clans became integrally involved in government. Taira no Kiyomori, who had defeated the Minamoto clan, became the dominant political force during those times. Kiyomori promoted trade between Japan and Sung Dynasty China and took broad control of northern Kyushu and the Seto Inland Sea coastal region that had become relevant trade hubs. The Taira clan was highly prosperous in those days, but dissatisfaction grew in the surrounding areas. When Minamoto no Yoritomo raised an army to topple the Taira clan, they gradually succumbed to the pressure and were defeated at Dan-no-ura. Various traditional places connected to the Taira clan still remain in the areas around Kitakyushu where they recovered and spent their final days.

| | 헤이안 시대 말기에는 다이라 가문과 미나모토 가문의 무사가 힘을 갖게 됩니다. 다이라 가문과 미나모토 가문은 호겐의 난과 헤이지의 난 등 조정 내의 다툼을 통해 정치에 관여하게 되었고 미나모토 가문을 이긴 다이라노 기요모리는 권력을 독점했습니다. 기요모리는 일송 무역을 추진하여 그 거점이 되는 규슈 북부와 세토 내해 연안을 널리 세력 아래 두었습니다. 눈부신 영화를 누리던 다이라 가문이었지만, 주변의 불만이 늘어나면서 미나모토 가문의 동량 미나모토노 요리토모가 다이라 가문의 타도를 위해 거병하자 서서히 압박을 받아 단노우라에서 멸망했습니다. 다이라 가문이 재기를 꿈꾸며 끝을 보낸 기타큐슈 근교에는 다이라 가문과 관련된 다양한 전승지가 남아 있습니다. |
