Description | Born in Marseille, France in 1972. Lives and works in Paris. Briand is an artist who produces works using the latest video equipment and computers, which can broaden and also somewhat confuse viewer’s perceptions. Frequently referring to the image of ‘future’ depicted in manga and movies, which he has been interested in since his childhood, the artist produces many installations, which visitors can actually experience. After holding a largescale solo exhibition at Museum of Contemporary Art, Lyon in 2004, he has extended the range of creation to experience-type installations without computing, but his approach to regard viewer’s perceptions as the starting point of his production has been consistent. This piece enables visitors to exchange their visual and auditory senses with other visitors, using a head-mounted display with a small camera attached. By wearing the head-mounted display and connecting / disconnecting the hand-held plug with sockets set up inside the building, you can watch images captured by other visitors’ cameras, or images from cameras set up in 15 different places around the building. The feature of this system is that the images you see don’t just change under your control, but can also change when other people plug or unplug their displays. Thus you feel confused with your visual senses that you don’t have control. The head-mount was designed by OKAWARA Kunio, who was in charge of Mecha Design for "Mobile Suite Gundam", Japanese Anime. |
