PlaceCity Center

Kinouchi left various works with various materials, like terracotta, bronze, ceramic, etc. “Woman with Hands on Ground” was produced when the artist, initially considered non-prolific, discovered limitless freedom in creative works and energetically engaged in production with matching skills. Kinouchi must have learned the secret of freedom found in clay figurines from Jomon period or archaic statues from the Ancient Greece. The series of works, including this “Woman with Hands on Ground” and “Leaning Figure”, won Mainichi Art Award. The artist created another bronze statue with the same title (1957), in which the woman places only one hand on the ground, along with many other bronze figures with various postures.
